The fitness industry is a huge money market. That’s the reason why there are so many fitness facilities and programs popping up at every turn. Why you ask? Well what better way to make money by playing off of people’s insecurities. By alerting the general public that they need to change their appearance for the sake of others. That’s typically the way they market health and fitness. Your actual well being is secondary at best. With so many initiatives around. How does anyone of them rise above and get noticed? Well the answer is simple. By being different.
If you don’t know by now. My name is Michael Nicholson. I currently own two gyms and founded a fitness program entitled M. Nicholson Hip Hop Fitness, which is a popular class that provides a unique form of dance fitness to central Ohio area. Since I developed the program, there has been a number of individuals that have tried to steal and/or copy us. When we started. There were no other programs titled hip hop fitness nor did they offer the style in which we possess. They were either Latin fusion, Dance Jam, Zumba or Jazzercise. Once our program started gaining fame in the city. Everyone else soon started either dropping their previous titles of dance fitness for hip hop fitness or just adding hip hop fitness to their repertoire. So now there’s a plethora of hip hop fitness programs in the city. How do we manage to be the most notable? We do that by differentiating ourselves from the others.
You may not be the first or original program but you can do some original things in your program first.
It’s hard to stand out in the midst of copycats and perpetrators. It is however possible to achieve. We’ve been able to do it by first of all being the original hip hop fitness program in the city. When you ahead, the best thing to do is stay ahead. When you experience an original, to tend to want to stick with it. Who wants a knock-off anything? Now you may be wondering how do you became original with a licensed program like CrossFit, Yoga, etc. These types of programs will require you to depend on the intangibles for you to stand out but it can be done. I’ll get into that with another post.
Second thing that you need to do is make sure that your program fitness program gets results. Who wants to join a program where the people in it do not get results? That would be the definition of insanity (no not Shaun T Insanity). So it takes a lot trial and error to figure out what works and what doesn’t. When you figure out what does. Stick with it and refine it. You should always be in the mindset of being results driven. This will benefit your clients first and you second when they become loyal customers. Also they become walking billboards for your fitness business.
The third and last thing that I am going to focus on in this post (because they’re many more things you need to do stand out), is always stay innovative. In the prior paragraph I mentioned that you need to what works and stick with it. This does not mean to keep doing the same thing all the time. That’s a quick way for people to get bored with your program. This also aids you in staying ahead of the competition. You may not be the first or original program but you can do some original things in your program first.
